Touhou: Eastern Stored Feelings

What if... Yaoi in Touhou!? Such was born Eastern Stored Feelings. The Touhou franchise, as any expert gamer-otaku knows, is a monument of the yuri world. Whether for its huge cast and complex feminine relationships, or its delicate and gorgeous character designs, or even for a lore just as poetic...

In the middle of all that, only a single male character can be argued to be relatively well characterized — and almost only in the mysterious short story collection Curiosities of Lotus Asia: Rinnosuke Morichika. The second most heard-about man in all of Gensokyo as far as canonical lore goes is never seen: Marisa Kirisame's father — not even named. This Yaoi Game Jam 2021 entry aims at telling an unique tale, exploring and fleshing out some of the blind spots in the Touhouverse.

The story of Eastern Stored Feelings takes place in the Human Village, a part of Gensokyo where youkai and danmaku aren't really parts of daily life. With its still traditional architecture, and a faithful people, this village is inspired from Meiji-era Japan. Everything about the game hopes to transmit some vision of this far-away, both in space and time: the backgrounds, the sprites... even the music is composed with traditional orchestration in mind (koto, shamisen, shakuhachi, taiko, percussions and more: if your ears are trained, you may guess right)!

Through the polish of a lively historical backdrop, meet Kyohei Kirisame, trader and owner of the bustling Kirisame second-hand store. A youthful heart of gold, whose fate is bound to intertwine with his shy half-youkai apprentice's, Rinnosuke — or, as was then his name, Eikou. Discover in this short and dramatic voiced kinetic visual novel how the two of them will meet and bond, despite lives already decided by others...
